An Exercise in Receiving What We Need at Any Given Time
I can readily admit how difficult it can be to relinquish control and trust others (even if the “other” you are trusting is your higher self) to know what may be best for you in any given circumstance. I tend to lead and take control of the projects I work on, and this translates pretty seamlessly into my personal life, too. However, a very important and integral part of meditation is to know and trust that your higher self does know what is best for you. Sometimes, it can be not only refreshing but imperative to release control and trust that the universe has your back. Especially when it comes to healing and manifesting, knowing that the universe is looking out for you is an essential part of any meditation. But, as someone who likes control, I can tell you that this is easier said than done. So, I thought I’d walk you through a nice, relaxing exercise that I occasionally conduct to help myself heal and allow what is best for me to come into my life. This is something I needed today as I felt overwhelmed with my life; I encourage you to try it out, especially when things become too much for you.
I’ll relinquish control without trying to visualize or even understand what that is. Rather, I accept that my higher self knows what I need most and has my best interests in mind.
Whenever I conduct a meditation exercise, on top of my usual preparatory process, I try to build up a great deal of gratitude within myself. I turn on my Expand app Timer section with Focus 12 signals, and pull forth thoughts about what makes me happiest. I’ll visualize my partner and how happy he makes me, and live in that feeling, letting it build as I feel grateful to have him. I’ll do the same thinking of my daughter—and then my home, my show, and so on, basking in that gratitude for a few minutes.
From there I’ll clear my mind and allow myself to just peacefully exist in peace and serenity. Any thoughts that arise are let go as I feel the rise and fall of my chest. Each exhale releases any remaining stress. I’ll feel myself going deeper and deeper until I am fully relaxed. As I clear my mind, I’ll give one final release before I start repeating my mantra. For this exercise, my mantra is generally, “I release that which no longer serves me. I am happy and at peace without unnecessary stress.” After repeating this a few times, I’ll live in that feeling of release for a while.
From there, I ask my higher self to invite in whatever I most need at this moment. For this particular exercise, I’ll relinquish control without trying to visualize or even understand what that is. Rather, I accept that my higher self knows what I need most and has my best interests in mind. I allow trust and understanding as I accept whatever the universe wants to send in with grace. I’ll also feel a great healing energy come into my body at this time. I usually see this as a white light and trust that my higher self will use it to heal whatever needs healing. I then relax, meditate, breathe in and out, and rest in gratitude, knowing the universe is sending me exactly what I need.
This can be one of the most refreshing exercises if we can let go of what we think we need and allow the universe to send us what we actually need. It’s not always easy to relinquish control like this; however, I’ve been experiencing increased ease in my daily life. I hope you, too, can open to the sense of support that comes with trusting your higher self.
